DRZA Ceramics

/drizz’a se’ramiks/ noun: mud molder

Check it out! Some pics of my ceramics in the wild.

Note that this isn’t a shop (yet). If you’re interested in purchasing a piece, give me a holler! We can set something up.

My ceramics.

Although my studies ultimately took me down the science route, I couldn’t ignore my need to create. I love to touch, feel, hold—it’s what grounds me and allows me to experience what every moment has to offer. Creating with clay touches upon every one of the senses (ok, maybe not taste, I’m not about to eat some clay). That’s why I’ve found such a deep connection with clay and why every piece I create is functional: so that you can touch, feel, and hold pieces and experience the love I’ve poured into every ounce of mud.

FAQs

How long does it take to create a piece?

I split my time between the yoga studio and pottery studio; it can take anywhere from 3-4 weeks to turn a lump of clay into a finished, functional piece.

It goes a little something like this. Once a wet lump of clay is formed into its shape the clay must dry to “leather hard” before it can be trimmed to its final shape. At this point, the clay is in its “greenware” state and goes through a controlled drying process; the clay must be completely dried before entering the kiln for its first fire (bisque). The first firing takes about 3 days to complete. Once the piece comes out of the kiln it is ready for glazing.

Depending on the type of glaze, I put anywhere from 2-4 coats on each piece with dry time in between each coat. Post-glazing, the piece is then cleaned up and ready for a second firing (another 3 days).

Finally, once the kiln has slowly cooled down we are ready to see how the pieces turned out (I’ve learned to always expect a bit of the unexpected).

How much do your pieces cost and how do I make a purchase?

The price of each piece is dependent on a number of things: size, shape complexity, and level of design detail. To give you an idea, a mug can cost anywhere from $35-$55.

If there is a piece you’d specifically like to inquire about, reach out to me directly using the “Let’s talk shop” button below. I’m in the process of creating a store, so if you’d like to see what pieces are currently available, Instagram is your best bet.

As of right now, I do not have a waiting list, so each sale is first come/first served.

Do you take commissions and special orders?

While I primarily create designs in small batches for public sales, I do currently take commissions and special orders. Depending on the type of order (read: complexity and quantity), the process can take anywhere from 3-10 weeks.

Are your pieces food safe?

Hell yes! All of my pieces are functional and food safe, with the exception of some decorative pieces (e.g., vases; I assume you wont be putting any food in those, unless you’re looking for a very awkward cereal bowl).
